Well Abandonment Services
DVP Water Systems can decommission your unused or unmaintained well.
If you have an unused well on your property, it’s very important to have it properly treated and sealed off (this process is sometimes referred to as “well decommissioning”).
Why is it important to seal off your unused and unmaintained well?
There are a number of reasons…
- Safety concerns: Unused wells may pose a safety hazard to both people and animals, who may fall into them.
- Contamination of groundwater: An improperly sealed well is a direct channel for contaminants – like fertilizer, animal waste, chemicals, and hazardous waste – to enter the groundwater. Since groundwater is often used as a source of potable water, preventing it from becoming polluted is very important.
- Environment protection: Groundwater and the health of the aquifer is a key to maintaining this water as a key resource for drinking, ecosystems and more.
- Legal issues/compliance: Depending on where you live, you may be subject to laws governing the proper decommissioning of inactive wells. These laws are designed to protect water quality and public safety.
- Water resource management: properly closing off an unused well prevents the loss of water through seepage and evaporation.
While the process of decommissioning an unmaintained well depends largely on what type of well it is, we are licensed to decommission all types whether it’s drilled, dug, bored, environmental, monitoring, and sand points.
